Design of “毎(mai)”

The character “Mai”, which has become a symbol of the Mainichi Shodo (Calligraphy) Exhibition has deep roots. It has been designed into our posters and other printed materials, and has become quite well-known. It is an excerpt from the book “Draft of a Requiem to My Nephew” by Yan Zhenqing, a figure from the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of China’s Tang Dynasty. Over 1,200 years later, it has become widely known to the public through the Mainichi Shodo (Calligraphy)Exhibition.
